The bell jingled as Alex stepped inside the small convenience store, looking around. He gave a content sigh, feelings of euphoria and nostalgia bombarding him as he took in the familiar sights and smells around him. He remembered this place well… it had an air of comfort to it, just like it did when he used to come here all those years ago. He’d grown up in this area, and coming here had always been a favorite pastime of his. All of his friends had come here, too, and they would often spend time in the store together, buying whatever they could afford and just hanging out with each other. Of course, that was all long ago. Having grown up, he hadn’t come here in a long time. But since he was in the area again, he decided to have one last look around, just for old times sake.

Smiling to himself, Alex walked around the store, the familiarity of everything comforting him. It still looked exactly the same to him, everything laid out exactly how he remembered it. He knew the store by heart, knew where everything was… he could probably navigate it with his eyes closed. The comic books, the toys, the gum, and of course, the candy. He could still vividly remember coming in here with his friends and buying as many candy bars as he could before going over to one of their houses to play a few video games. There were all sorts of games that they played, but there was one that he had always liked the best, called…

He frowned. That was strange. Why couldn’t he remember the name of it? He remembered other details… the grid-based gameplay, the maze-like levels, the bombs, the explosions… and of course, those cute little kangaroo-like creatures you could ride on. Alex had always been a fan of those little guys. Yet… as hard as he tried, he couldn’t even remember their names. Had it really been that long?

He sighed, shaking his head. Oh well. It had been a while since he’d seen that game, after all. There was bound to be stuff about it that he didn’t remember. As he walked into the candy aisle, he felt another rush of nostalgia as he looked at all the treats lining the shelves. All the candy was there, just like he remembered… all the brands from his childhood, sitting there on the shelves in front of him. It all looked the same… except for one thing. There was one brand that he didn’t recognize, nestled in among all the others. Curious, he picked it up, looking it over. “Change-O-Bar…” he muttered. “What a weird name…” He flipped it over, reading the description on the back. “Eat this and unlock your inner self… huh. Sounds like a load of BS to me.” But even so, he was curious. He’d never even heard of this brand before, let alone seen it in a store. Intrigued, he walked up to the counter to pay for his purchase before exiting the store, the candy bar clutched in his fist.

As Alex stepped outside, he immediately felt the warm sun shining down on his back. He smiled, remembering the summers from his childhood… all the activities he’d spend doing with his friends, back when he didn’t have a care in the world. But he figured he’d spend enough time reminiscing about such things in the store. It was time to try something new! He unwrapped the Change-O-Bar, eager to try it. He wasn’t sure why, but something about it just made him really excited about eating it. Quickly pulling off the wrapper, he held it under his nose, inhaling deeply. Even the smell of it seemed intoxicating. He had to try it! He quickly took a bite out of it, the taste of chocolate filling his mouth. He could only smile as he gulped it down, since it was easily one of the best chocolate bars he had ever tasted in his life. He had no clue what was in it to make it taste so excellent, but he absolutely loved it. Within seconds he had devoured the entire bar, chocolate still smeared around his mouth. He couldn’t remember the last time he had tasted anything that good. How had he never heard of this brand before?

Smiling, Alex stood up, still feeling the sun shining down on him. He suddenly began chuckling to himself, which almost immediately escalated into him bending over, laughing uncontrollably. He didn’t even know why he was doing it. All of a sudden, he just felt like a kid again! Was it the sun? The store? The chocolate? He wasn’t even sure. As he straightened up again, he suddenly felt a huge rush of adrenaline flow through his body. He wasn’t sure why… but he suddenly just wanted to run! He wanted to run and run and run, enjoying himself and never stopping to look back. He wanted to be free! Like a child with no worries, no responsibilities! And what better time for freedom then summer, the high point of every child’s life? Grinning wildly, he took off running, not wanting to stop for anything… anything at all.

On and on he ran, without a care in the world, never tiring, never stopping. He never wanted this to end… he just wanted to run forever! He kept on laughing to himself as he went on, his shoes trampling through the grass and dirt. Of course, he didn’t notice what else was happening to his shoes. As he ran, they seemed to be stretching out slightly, as if something was pushing against the insides of them, desperate to break through. A few more steps, though, and they could take no more. They suddenly burst open as Alex’s feet stretched and grew though them, tearing them apart. They hardly looked like his feet anymore though, as they were completely covered in white fur, his toes having merged together and pads having formed on the bottoms, making it so that he didn’t even need his shoes anymore. He didn’t even notice the change… he just continued running on his massive new paws, completely unaware that anything out of the ordinary had happened.

He did, however, stop when a massive recollection struck him. Bomberman! Of course! That was the name of the game he and his friends had played together. How could he have forgotten? Excited at having remembered, he quickly began bouncing up and down, his new paws feeling completely natural on the soil… like he had always had them. But almost as soon as it appeared, the smile vanished. Even though he had remembered what the game was called, he still didn’t remember other details… like what those Kangaroo-like guys were called. Maybe if he started running again, he would remember… and with that thought, he took off once again, determined to figure it all out.

But as he ran, his legs began feeling strange… like they were getting less and less mobile. He frowned before shrugging it off, not wanting anything to distract him from his run. In reality, his legs were starting to shrink, disappearing into his body and becoming shorter and shorter. In turn, his body was being lowered to the ground, even seeming to sink past his legs as they moved to either side of his body. His pants fell off completely, revealing the green fur that was sweeping across his legs and spreading up to his sides. White fur began growing on his front as well, which was quickly growing larger and pudgier. His legs also began growing, the extra muscles forming giving him the strength to run even faster.

Once again, a new memory of the game he was playing flashed in his mind. Rooeys… that was what they were called. That was the name given to the ridable creatures from Bomberman, the ones that he had enjoyed finding so much. He could still remember the joy he felt whenever he found an egg that hatched into one of these Rooeys, and just thinking about it was making him feel giddy with excitement again. He felt his new leg muscles tense as he ran his hands across his pudgy belly, stroking the white fur. Once again, though, he was too absorbed in his nostalgic memories to really notice anything different about himself. Still brimming with energy, he immediately took off running again.

More changes began occurring. His spine began stretching as a large tail formed and grew from his backside, covered in green fur with a black tip. His body started to hunch over, becoming pudgier as more fur spread across it. Green fur made its way across his arms as his fingers shrank and merged, almost making them look like paws. His shirt strained against his growing body, until the mass of fur and girth finally ripped it off. And of course, more memories of the game he used to play filled his head. His interest in the Rooeys… how he would constantly search for them in the game, how his interest only increased when he played the other game in the series and saw even more variations of the species… it was all quickly coming back to him. All of those things he had forgotten, filling his head… it was incredible. It was amusing to think that he could have spent so long having forgotten about it. In fact, it was so amusing that he actually began chuckling again. Before long, he actually had to stop running again because he was laughing so hard.

The final changes began setting in as he chuckled. With each laugh, his face started pushing out, green and white fur spreading across it as it formed into a muzzle. His nose changed to match, darkening and shrinking slightly. His ears started growing longer and longer, stretching and moving to the top of his head. White fur grew around his new muzzle while green fur grew around his eyes and head, his short hair changing color to match. As the changes drew to a close, so did his chuckling. He looked up, blinked a few times… and frowned.

“Um… where am I?” He looked around at his surroundings, noticing that nothing around him seemed at all familiar. “Am… am I in some kind of jungle?” It certainly looked that way. Surrounded by trees on all sides, exotic plants growing around him… it definitely looked like he was in a jungle. But how did he get here? As far as he knew, there weren’t any jungles around where he lived… so how-

“Hey! Rooey!” Alex quickly turned around, his jaw dropping as he saw what was in front of him. Standing there was none other than the White Bomber himself, Bomberman! Dressed in his iconic white and blue outfit, he grinned at Alex… or at least seemed to, since his mouth was hidden by his suit. “Ready to go blow up some bad guys, Rooey?” he asked cheerfully.

“Rooey? What are you talking abou-” Upon looking down at himself, Alex quickly stopped mid-sentence. “...wait, what?” He quickly began running his paw hands though his fur, across his tail, just to make sure it was all real… and of course, it was. “Oh…” He blinked a few times, before looking up at Bomberman again. He knew that he should be freaking out - after all, he had just transformed into a fictional creature from a videogame! - but somehow, he was completely calm. Something about this form just felt… right. He had always loved the Rooeys, and now, not only had he actually become one, but he had the ability to work with Bomberman and save the world from evil? Hell yeah! With a grin, he simply turned around, motioning for Bomberman to get on.

“Aright!” Still grinning (at least seemingly,) Bomberman hopped onto Alex’s back. “Now, let’s go fight some bad guys!” And with that, Alex was off and running once again, this time with Bomberman on his back. He just kept running and running, a permanent smile plastered onto his face. He felt like his entire childhood had come to life in front of him… and he absolutely loved it. This was what he was meant to do. This was who he was meant to be.
A request for :iconartooinst:, who want a TF into a Rooey from Bomberman. Another series I'm not terribly familiar with, but I think it came out pretty well!

As usual, I welcome constructive criticism, and until next time, I'm Robert Dayson, signing off!
