“Hey! Adam! You coming or what?”

“Huh? Oh… yeah, I guess so…” Once again, I’d been caught staring off into the distance, looking out at the horizon that stretched across Route 13. The beach was just below the ledge I was standing on, and the water surrounding it was looking beautiful as always… but I wasn’t really interested in that. I was more interested in what was beyond the beach… on that massive stretch of land lying just to the left of the beach. Yes, I’d just been walking on it, since it was the easiest way to get to here from my hometown of Lacunosa Town, but even so… there were things on it that I’d never seen before. Things that I really wanted to see. Case and point, the massive crater on the other side of Lacunosa Town: the Giant Chasm.

“What are you even looking at, anyway?” My friend Pete walked up to me, trying to follow my veiw. “You always seem to be staring off into the distance, and I can never figure out why… oh.” He turned his head to look at me. “You’re looking at the Giant Chasm again, aren’t you?”

“Yeah…” I sighed. “I don’t know why, but… I just find that place really interesting.” I grinned. “I’ve always liked places with a lot of lore like that… especially when that lore involves a Legendary Pokemon.” I was, of course, referring to the legend regarding Lacunosa Town and the Legendary Pokemon Kyurem. According to the legend, Kyurem would come from the Giant Chasm on cold nights to snatch both people and Pokemon away from Lacunosa Town to eat them. That’s supposedly why the wall surrounding Lacunosa Town was built, and why people still wanted to stay in their houses at night. It was an interesting story, and I had always wondered whether or not it was true… which is one of the reasons I wanted to check out the Giant Chasm so badly.

“It would be pretty cool to go there,” replied Pete. “It’s too bad that it’s still blocked off. I’d totally go there if it weren’t for that rock slide that happened a few years ago.”

“Yeah, well, even if that rock slide wasn’t there, I probably still wouldn’t be able to go,” I said. “There’s no way my parents would ever let me.” My parents were traditionalists in every sense of the word. They never left our house after dark, were in full support of the walls surrounding our town, and they seemed to be absolutely terrified of the Giant Chasm, to the point where they refused to let me anywhere near it. “They keep telling me that it’s too dangerous… that I shouldn’t go anywhere near it,” I explained. “But what’s so dangerous about it? I mean, Kyurem’s gone now. It got captured by the league champion… Nate something-or-other.”

Pete frowned. “Is that the same guy who got rid of Team Plasma a while back?” he asked.

“Yep. There very same.” Of course… the resurgence of the criminal organization known as Team Plasma had been big in the news in our hometown, especially after they completely froze over Opelucid City, one of our neighboring towns. Their leader, Ghetsis, even tried to fuse Kyurem with one of the other two legendary dragons in Unova, Reshiram and Zekrom… though I couldn’t remember which one it was. However, they were eventually defeated by both Nate and N, Ghetsis’s son. Nate apparently went on to become the league champion, and even managed to capture both Kyurem and the other legendary dragon later on. “It all just sounds really cool… like an adventure.” I lowered my head. “I wish I could have an adventure like that. Anything to break away from all of this ‘Methodical and Orderly’ crap in Lacunosa Town.”

“Hey, be careful what you wish for,” said Pete, grinning. “Personally, I’m fine with the way things are in Lacunosa Town. It’s pretty relaxing, if you ask me.” His head turned south, towards our destination. “Speaking of relaxing, do you think we could hurry it up a little? I’d like to get to the beach in Undella Town before the sun goes down, okay?”

“Okay,” I said, nodding. But as I began walking, I turned to look towards the Giant Chasm one more time. “I’ll go there someday,” I said to myself. “I’ll explore every inch of that place as soon as I’m given the chance!” I smiled, before turning to follow Pete into Undella Town. If I couldn’t get there, I figured I might as well relax a little for the time being. I always did like the beaches in Undella.

………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………...........................

Moments later, I was lying in a beach chair, bored out of my mind. The sun, the waves, the sand… it was pretty relaxing and all, but I didn’t feel relaxed. I couldn’t stop thinking about my conversation with Pete… how I could never seem to do what I wanted, how I was trapped in Lacunosa Town’s methodical ways. It was ridiculously frustrating, and I was sick of it. And yet here I was, lying on the beach in Undella Town, pretending like nothing was wrong. I couldn’t stand it.

I looked over at Pete, just lying there in his sunglasses. Looking perfectly content… just like always. He may have been fine with the way things were… but I wasn’t. I hated living in Lacunosa Town. All I wanted was something fresh… something exciting! I wanted an adventure, like Nate’s. I felt trapped. Trapped in Lacunosa’s methodical ways, unable to branch out the way I wanted to. I needed to be free. To explore. And I couldn’t do that by just lying out on a beach, as nice as it was.

I got up, putting my clothes on over my bathing suit. “Hey, Pete,” I said. “I’m going for a walk for a little bit. I’ll meet you back here in a bit, okay?”

Pete shrugged. “Fine with me,” he said. “As long as you’re not just going to look at that chasm again.”

I sighed, walking through the gate that led out to Route 13. I just needed some personal space… some time to myself, just to get my thoughts in order. A good walk always helped me to clear my head. I would return to him as soon as I finished with my walk, of course. At least, that’s what I planned.

“Um, excuse me?” I quickly turned around, finding myself face to face with an old man. His long white hair seemed to flow down the sides of his face, and his outfit seemed to consist almost entirely of shades of purple, with some black thrown in here and there. “I… appear to be a bit lost…” he said, smiling. “Do you think you could tell me the best way to get to Lacunosa Town?”

“Um… yeah, sure,” I said. “You just go past the ledge, down the steps, down the path through the beach, take a left, go up the steps, turn left at the trees, and turn left again. The gate to Lacunosa should be right there.”

The man grinned. “Thank you… thank you very much.” His grin seemed to grow even wider… almost to the point of being malicious. “Oh, by the way… you really should pay more attention to your surroundings when you’re talking to other people. Just saying.”

“Huh?” I frowned, confused. “What do you mea-” Before I could finish my sentence, I suddenly felt a massive blow to the back of my head. I staggered forwards, my eyesight fading as I began to fall. The last thing I saw before blacking out was the grin on the man’s face, more malicious and sinister than ever.

………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………...........................

Upon awaking, the first thing I felt was the cold. It was summer time in Unova, so I wasn’t exactly dressed for cold weather, so I could feel myself shivering, the cold air blowing across my skin. I looked around, noticing that I was in some kind of cave. There were patches of ice everywhere, and there were even icicles hanging from the ceiling and sticking up from the floor. Well, that explained the cold… but how did I get here? Where was here, even?

“Ah, you’re finally awake! Excellent! Now we can truly begin!”

“W-what?” I looked up and gasped, my heart pounding in my chest. Standing around me were several men and women dressed entirely in black, wearing hats and black cloths over their mouths. I also noticed the logos on their chests… a black and white shield with the letter P over it. The logo for Team Plasma.

Walking over to me was the old man from earlier. Only now, he was dressed in purple robes, the Team Plasma logo right on the front. “I’m glad to see you’re doing okay,” he said, his grin more malicious than ever. “I suppose I never got the chance to introduce myself. My name is Zinzolin.”

Zinzolin? I knew that name… Zinzolin had been a high-ranking member of the new Team Plasma under Ghetsis, before they were defeated by Nate and N. The fact that he was here in front of me couldn’t possibly be a good sign, especially since he was wearing those robes. “W-where am I?” I stammered, my teeth chattering out of both cold and fear.

Zinzolin simply laughed. “Why, we’re where you always wanted to go, Adam!” he said. I gasped. How did he know my name? “Ah yes, I see that you’re surprised. I happened to be listening to that conversation you were having with your friend… right before you went inside that beach town. You were talking about how you always wanted to come here, right? Well, here you are now… inside the Giant Chasm! Are you happy now?”

“We’re… in the Giant Chasm?” Had the circumstances been more ideal, I might have been happy about that. But this wasn’t the time to get excited over something like that. I still didn’t know what these people wanted from me, and I was sure it was something I wasn’t going to like. “Wha… what do you want from me?” I said, my teeth still chattering.

Zinzolin’s grin grew even wider. “Well… I suppose I can’t just stand here talking to you forever, can I? Yes, let’s get onto the main event!” Upon saying it, he reached into his pockets, taking out two stones. One of them was pure white… the other was pitch black.

My eyes widened. I knew what those stones were. “Are those… are those the Dragon Stones?” I asked in disbelief. I had read about them, of course… I’d even seen pictures. The Light Stone and the Dark Stone, said to contain the two legendary dragons Reshiram and Zekrom, respectively. But… I thought that both of those Pokemon had been captured! How did Zinzolin have them?

“Yes, they are,” said Zinzolin, still grinning. “Well… yes and no. They’re not the real stones… they’re actually simple clones. They don’t actually contain Reshiram and Zekrom… though they do contain large amounts of their DNA. And that’s where these come in handy!” He reached into his pocket again, pulling out something that made my heart jump: the DNA Splicers. The same device that Ghetsis had used to fuse Kyurem with the other legendary dragon… whichever one it was. “Now, if we use these to fuse these two stones together in the place where Kyurem always resided… using a human as the catalyst, of course…” He looked at me, his grin somehow growing even wider. “Well, I’m not entirely sure what will happen… but I’m sure it will be quite interesting!”

Still grinning, Zinzolin tossed the two stones into the air, before pointing the DNA Splicers at them. Instantly, two purple beams shot out of the Splicers, passing through both stones and giving them an eerie purple glow. As I watched, they began darting around the cavern I was in, turning from purple to almost an icy blue… before turning towards me and shooting straight into my body! I screamed in agony, feeling the iciness of the two beams course through my body, making me feel like I was being frozen solid. Through the pain, I could see the two stones from earlier shrinking and following the beams, until they passed into my body as well. But the moment they entered my body, I… felt them. I felt them inside of me… almost like they were filling my entire body. Between them and the chilling feeling, my entire body was beginning to feel completely… alien.

Zinzolin kept on looking, excitement filling his eyes. “Any minute now…” he said. “Any minute… this boy will become our new greatest weapon!”

Weapon? What was going on? What was going to happen to me? I could still feel all three elements inside me- the iciness and the two stones- running through my body, almost seeming to push against my skin. But I immediately gasped when I suddenly felt this feeling build up in two specific areas: my legs and my feet. I immediately stood up, the feeling building up more and more… when suddenly, I felt my feet burst right through my shoes. Startled, I looked down… and saw my feet sticking out of the tattered remains of my footwear. Only, they didn’t look like my feet anymore.

The first thing I noticed was the claws. It looked like I had three toes on each foot, and the toes on the edges seemed to each end in a massive, white claw. But the most startling thing was the middle toes, each of which ended in a jagged yellow claw almost twice as big as the white claws. But before I even had time to process that, I felt the pressure build up in my legs… and pretty soon, they swelled up to the point where they ripped right through my pants, just like my feet had done with my shoes. I noticed that the skin had turned gray, and looking down at my feet confirmed that the same thing had happened to them. They continued swelling and growing, becoming larger and heavier. I adjusted my feet as they too grew larger, my claws practically sinking into the ground with the new mass I was gaining. I felt a new weight on my thighs and I looked down, seeing that two golden ridges had grown between my legs and upper body, adding even more weight to me.

Before I could even believe that that had just happened, I began feeling the pressure again, this time in my upper body. As I felt it bulk up, I began running my hand across it in amazement, feeling the muscles underneath it grow. As they grew larger, I noticed that I was also growing… becoming larger and taller, quickly filling up more and more space in the room. As I watched the skin on my torso turn gray, I looked down at my arms… noticing that they too were turning gray. At least, my upper arms were… my lower arms appeared to be turning black, white fur growing along the bottoms and shooting past my elbows, almost looking like a tiny pair of wings. Finally, my hands began turning gray, fingers disappearing and turning into three giant white claws instead. Realizing how restrained I felt in my now much too small shirt, I quickly used my claws to rip through it, suprised at how easily it came off afterwards.

But as that happened, I suddenly began feeling a massive buildup of pressure in my backside. “Gah…. gahhhh!” I cried, feeling the pressure release itself, twisting and morphing… until it stopped. I looked behind me, my jaw dropping upon seeing… a tail. My tail. It was absolutely massive, shaped like a gigantic tube with black and gray ridges, white stripes, and yellow dots in various areas. At the end of the tube was more massive tufts of white fur, and sticking out that was the tail tip, black and spiky. It looked like it should have weighed a ton… yet it was attached to me, and I was lifting it like it was nothing. And I could feel something coming off of it… some kind of power, flowing into me through my tail, filling me. All of this power, filling my body… it felt incredible. I felt alive, powerful… like I could do anything at all.

But a cracking in my neck signaled that the changes weren’t over yet. My neck suddenly began growing longer, becoming more flexible as my head was raised further from my shoulders. I felt pressure build up in my face as it began to push out into a muzzle, my teeth growing into fangs. A long horn grew from the top of my head, and my hair grew longer as it started flowing down my long neck. I reached up to touch it, noting that it felt like the fur coming off of my forearms. Grinning, I felt one final burst of pressure in my upper back as two large growths formed from it, growing higher and higher. I looked behind me, turning my flexible neck to see two large black wings sprouting from my back. I gave them a few flaps, still grinning.

“Amazing! Such perfection!” I recoiled upon hearing the voice. I had been so preoccupied with my change that I had completely forgotten about the people standing below me. They looked so small compared to me now. “A perfect combination of the Tao Dragons!” cried Zinzolin, laughing. “And the perfect ultimate weapon for Team Plasma! Thanks to you, we can finally achieve our dreams of world domination!” He reached into his robe, pulling out an item that made me gasp: the cane that Ghetsis had used as the leader of Team Plasma… the same one he had used to control Kyurem!”

My eyes narrowed. Ultimate weapon? Hell no! I refused to be anyone’s weapon! Burning with rage, I spread my wings and flew into the air, far above everyone else. I could feel my tail heating up, glowing red… spreading its power through me. My entire body felt like it was filling up with endless heat … until I opened my mouth, an absolutely massive jet of flames streaming out of it and colliding with Zinzolin, causing him to drop to the ground. Next, my tail began glowing blue, and I could feel my body tingling with electricity. I roared, letting it all out, as thunderbolts began dropping on all of the Plasma Grunts in the cave, making them fall to the ground as well. Finally, I roared once again, as the temperature in the cave began dropping at an alarming rate. It just kept getting colder and colder, frost forming throughout the cave’s surface… but as an ice type, I wasn’t the least bit affected. Finally, I landed back on the ground, looking at the frozen bodies of Zinzolin and the rest of the Team Plasma members.

I grinned, looking around. With everyone around me dead, I could finally take a moment to fully assess my situation. It was just like he said… I was a perfect combination of Reshiram, Zekrom, and Kyurem. And… I loved it. My whole life, I had been interested in legendary Pokemon… and now I actually was one! No, even better… I was three! Three legendary Pokemon in one body! This was exactly what I wanted… to break away from my methodical life, to have an adventure. And now, I was finally living that dream. I was finally powerful enough to do whatever I wanted with my life… whatever it was. For the first time in my life… I finally felt complete.
